Switchable phototheranostic nanomaterials are of particular interest for specific biosensing, high-quality imaging, and targeted therapy in the field of precision nanomedicine. The in vivo specific binding between albumin and PcS, arising from the disassembly of injected NanoPcS, was recently confirmed using an inducible transgenic mouse system.1 We also devised a novel molecular design approach to create heavy-atom-free photosensitizers for thionapthalimides.2 In addition, a near-infrared two-photon fluorescent probe was developed to not only specially image carboxylesterase (CE) activity in vivo and in situ but also target orthotopic liver tumor after systemic administration

Prof. Juyoung Yoon received his PhD from the Department of Chemistry at the Ohio State University under the supervision of Prof. Anthony W. Czarnik in 1994. After completing postdoctoral research at UCLA under the guidance of Prof. Donald J. Cram and The Scripps Research Institute under the guidance of Prof. Janda D. Kim, he joined the faculty at Silla University in 1998. He moved to Ewha Womans University in 2002, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Nano Science. He is a member of Korean Academy of Sciences and Technology. Prof. Yoon is serving as an Associate Editor of Coordination Chemical Reviews and Smart Molecules and as an Executive Editor of Dyes and Pigments. His research interests include investigations of fluorescent probes, molecular recognition, activatable photosensitizers, new organic functional materials and theranostics. He published 450 SCI research papers (h-index: 122, ~58000 citations).
